The Language of Becoming: Story, Identity, and Reinvention

There’s a quiet truth many people carry but rarely articulate, the feeling that you’re “starting late,” or somehow behind in your journey.

But what if the path isn’t late… just unfolding?

Growing up in a peri-urban community in Delta State, I didn’t always have a clear roadmap for what my future would look like. What I did have, however, was a persistent sense that there was more: more to learn, more to become, more to contribute.

That “more” has shaped my journey across different roles and spaces, from pharmacy to global health, from grassroots community work in Nigeria to engaging in international development conversations across Europe, Africa, and beyond.

Along the way, I’ve come to understand that becoming is not a single moment. It is a process.

A continuous unfolding of identity shaped by experience, environment, and intentional growth.

Migration, for instance, is often spoken about in terms of movement, crossing borders, adapting to new systems. But beyond that, it is also deeply personal. It challenges your sense of identity, stretches your resilience, and forces you to redefine what belonging means.

Motherhood adds another layer, one that reshapes priorities, deepens empathy, and introduces a different kind of strength.

And through it all, storytelling becomes a powerful anchor.

It allows us to make sense of our journeys, to connect personal experiences with broader societal issues, and to create meaning that extends beyond ourselves.

I recently explored these themes in more depth in my interview with FAB L’Style Magazine, where I spoke about identity, migration, motherhood, and the evolving nature of purpose.

I recently discussed this in my interview with FAB L’Style Magazine

In that conversation, I share reflections on:

  • Navigating life across different cultures
  • The intersection of personal growth and social impact
  • The role of storytelling in shaping both identity and advocacy
  • What it means to continuously evolve without losing your core

At its heart, the journey is not about having everything figured out.

It is about paying attention to the moments that shape you…
and having the courage to grow through them.

Because becoming is not a destination.

It is a language; one you learn, unlearn, and rewrite as you go.
